Excessive sweating
Our bodies sweat to help keep our body temperature within an ideal range. But for some people, the sweat glands in their feet, hands, or underarms produce an excessive amount of moisture, a condition called hyperhidrosis. If you suspect you could have hyperhidrosis, talk to your doctor.
- Complications
-
While secreting extra sweat is not harmful, it can be emotionally difficult to deal with, often leading to social anxiety and shame in those who suffer from it. And because their feet are often moist, individuals with hyperhidrosis are at an increased risk for fungal infections like athlete's foot.
- Living with it
-
If you have hyperhidrosis, care for your feet and minimize your risk of athlete's foot by following the steps to healthy and happy feet, and by referring to the tips about prevention.
Talk to your doctor about excess sweating if you find you are having trouble living with the condition, or if you have recurrent infections. Also consider joining a support group if you feel embarrassed or ashamed. Sometimes knowing that others face similar issues can be very reassuring.
