Examining your feet
Just like we should examine the rest of our skin for irregularities, our feet need extra attention, too. On a regular basis, take time to look over your feet, paying close attention to any cuts, blisters, calluses, corns or signs of athlete's foot.
- Dealing with problem areas
-
If you find any problem areas such as corns or calluses, remember that these should never be cut. Instead, purchase a special cream available at your pharmacy that softens the skin, or try gently using a pumice stone while bathing. See your doctor if these methods do not resolve the problem.
Also contact your doctor if you have ingrown toenails – and resist cutting them yourself. Doing so can make the problem worse, and increase your risk of infection.
